Signs You Need an Indoor Air Quality Upgrade

Dust Builds Back Fast

Vents and furniture collect a visible layer again just days after cleaning.

Rooms Feel Stuffy

Bedrooms feel stale or stuffy with the door closed, especially overnight.

Smells That Won't Quit

Cooking, pet, or musty odors linger no matter how much you clean or spray.

Allergies Act Up at Home

Sneezing, congestion, or itchy eyes that ease up the moment you leave the house.

Muggy Or Clammy air

Windows fog up, or rooms feel damp even with the AC running.

Musty Damp Smell

A basement, closet, or bathroom smell that keeps coming back.

Illness Spreads Fast At Home

One person gets sick and it moves through the whole household within days.

Newer Home, Still Feels Stale

Tightly sealed, energy-efficient homes with no dedicated fresh-air system.

What's Actually Wrong With Your Air

Most air quality problems aren’t visible. Here’s what’s usually behind them.

Poor Ventilation

Sealed-up homes trap stale air and CO2 inside with nowhere to go.

Low-Grade Filtration

Standard filters stop dust bunnies, not the fine particles that trigger allergies.

Airborne Bacteria & Mold

Your system circulates air through the whole house, including whatever’s living in it.

Humidity Imbalance

Too wet invites mold. Too dry cracks skin, sinuses, and wood floors.

VOCs & Chemical Odors

Paint, cleaners, and new furniture off-gas into air that has nowhere to escape.

Duct Leakage

Gaps pull unfiltered attic or crawlspace air straight into your living space.

Unbalanced Airflow

Some rooms stay comfortable. Others barely get conditioned air at all.

No Dedicated Fresh Air Source

Efficient, sealed homes need active air exchange, or nothing gets out.

What's Included in Our Indoor Air Quality Assessment

Every AC repair starts with a full diagnostic, not a guess. Here’s what happens when we show up.

01

Full home airflow check

We check supply and return airflow room by room to spot weak spots and imbalances.

02

Air quality testing

We measure humidity, ventilation, and filtration performance against what your home actually needs.

03

Clear explanation before any work

You’ll know exactly what’s affecting your air and why, in plain language, before we recommend anything.

04

Solution matched to your system

We recommend equipment that fits your ducted or ductless setup, not a one-size-fits-all package.

05

Walkthrough after install

We show you what changed, how to maintain it, and what to expect going forward.

The Right Fix for the Right Problem

No one-size-fits-all air purifier. We match the solution to what’s actually in your air.

AERUS AIR SCRUBBER

Solves: low-grade filtration, VOCs & chemical odors, airborne bacteria

Installs into your ductwork and treats the air as it moves through your system, not just what passes through a filter. Breaks down odors, VOCs, and fine particles standard filters miss. Works alongside ducted systems; ductless homes need a compatible air handler setup, we’ll confirm on assessment.

BROAN ENERGY RECOVERY VENTILATOR (ERV)

Solves: poor ventilation, no dedicated fresh air source, unbalanced airflow

Swaps stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air automatically, without spiking your heating or cooling bill. Built for newer, tightly sealed homes that trap stale air and CO2 with no way out. ENERGY STAR certified. Works with both ducted and ductless setups.

SOLACEAIR UVC GERMICIDAL SYSTEM

Solves: airborne bacteria & mold, humidity imbalance side effects, lingering odors

Installs into your ductwork with two UVC lamps: one neutralizes bacteria, viruses, and mold spores, the other targets odor-causing gases. Runs quietly in the background with no daily maintenance. Best for ducted systems; ask us about standalone options for mini-split homes.

Not Sure Which Fix You Need?

START WITH FILTRATION & FRESH AIR IF:

  1. Dust builds back fast after cleaning
  2. Rooms feel stuffy or stale, especially at night
  3. Your home is newer and tightly sealed
  4. Some rooms get airflow, others don’t
  5. No known mold, illness, or lingering odor issues

ADD GERMICIDAL UVC IF:

  1. Musty or damp smells keep coming back
  2. Illness moves through the household fast
  3. You’ve had known mold or humidity problems
  4. Allergies or asthma react to more than just dust
  5. Odor control alone hasn’t solved the problem

We’ll always tell you what’s actually needed, not what’s most expensive. Most homes start with filtration and ventilation. UVC gets added when there’s a biological or odor issue filtration alone won’t fix.

How We Test Your Indoor Air, Step by Step

DIAGNOSE

1. Airflow test, room by room — Confirm supply and return airflow match what each room needs.

2. Humidity and moisture check — Measure indoor humidity against healthy ranges for your home.

3. Ventilation rate check — Test how much fresh outdoor air is actually reaching your living space.

4. Filtration performance check — Evaluate your current filter’s MERV rating against what your home needs.

5. Duct inspection — Check for leaks pulling unfiltered attic or crawlspace air into your ducts.

6. Odor and source walkthrough — Walk the home to identify where smells or damp spots originate.

DECIDE

7. Root cause identified — We pinpoint what’s actually driving the issue, not just the symptom.

8. Upfront recommendation and quote — You approve the plan and cost before anything is installed.

REPAIR

9. Equipment installed — Air scrubber, ERV, UVC system, or a combination, matched to your system.

10. Post-install verification — We re-test airflow and air quality to confirm the fix worked.

11. Walkthrough — We explain what changed, what maintenance looks like, and what to expect.

What Affects the Cost of Indoor Air Quality Upgrades

Costs vary because homes vary. Here’s what actually moves the number.

IAQ pricing depends on what your home needs, not a flat rate. A quote that skips straight to a number without testing your air first isn’t one you can trust.

  • Ducted vs. ductless — Ducted systems can use in-line solutions like an air scrubber or UVC system. Ductless homes may need different equipment or placement.
  • Home size and layout — More square footage or multiple zones can mean more airflow to balance and larger equipment.
  • Current ductwork condition — Leaky or undersized ducts may need sealing or modification before new equipment performs correctly.
  • What’s actually wrong — Filtration alone costs less than filtration plus ventilation plus germicidal UVC.
  • Existing system compatibility — Some equipment integrates with your current setup easily. Older or nonstandard systems can add labor.

Rooted in the Community We Serve

More wildfire smoke, more sealed homes, more reasons to take indoor air seriously throughout our Greater Seattle communities.

Air quality in the Puget Sound region has gotten worse over the last decade, not better. Local air quality monitors have recorded the highest fine particle pollution levels on record since tracking began in 1980, and the shift traces back to 2015.Since 2015, the region has faced unprecedented wildfire smoke, with the highest fine particle levels recorded since monitoring began in 1980. That’s on top of what’s already coming from inside your own house.

  • Wildfire smoke is now a regular season, not a rare event. By 2020, the region had faced increasingly heavy wildfire smoke in three of the previous four years, with September 2020 producing the highest fine particle readings recorded since monitoring began in 1999.
  • Winter is quietly worse than wildfire season. Puget Sound Clean Air Agency data shows winter PM2.5 levels run about 40% higher than summer levels, driven largely by wood burning.
  • Wood smoke is the single biggest winter pollutant. An estimated 63% of winter particle pollution in the Puget Sound area comes from wood stoves and fireplaces.
  • It’s not going away, even in a “good” year. Even in 2025, a comparatively light wildfire year with only three smoke-impacted days, the region still exceeded its air quality health goal on multiple days due to winter wood smoke.
  • Modern homes trap more of it inside. Newer construction around Mill Creek, Bothell, and Lynnwood is built tighter and more energy-efficient than older housing stock, which means whatever’s in the air, smoke, pollen, wood smoke, dampness, has fewer ways to get back out once it’s in.

What Seattle Homeowners Are Saying

The only downside of using Cascadia Comfort? You wish they just be the one that handle all sorts of work other than HVAC because they define what a fantastic service should be. They extremely responsive with communication, doesn't have any shady practice of charging you insane amount of visit fee that doesn't go towards the actual repair, reasonable pricing, and excellent use of technology to let you know who's coming and when are they coming for repair. The technician was extremely friendly and knowledge. He let me shadow him and explain every steps to me. I wish they can also be my landscaper, home repair, car repair....

Frequently Asked Indoor Air Quality Questions

How do I know if my indoor air quality is actually bad?

Common signs include dust that builds back fast, musty or lingering odors, allergy symptoms that ease up when you leave the house, and rooms that feel stuffy even with the HVAC running. The only way to know for sure is a real air quality test, not a guess.

No. Some solutions, like duct-mounted air scrubbers and UVC systems, do require ductwork. Others, like ventilation upgrades, can work with ductless mini-split systems. We evaluate your specific setup before recommending anything.

Yes, filtration and ventilation upgrades both help reduce indoor smoke particles during wildfire season, which has become a regular part of Pacific Northwest summers in recent years. The right solution depends on how your home is currently set up.

An air scrubber targets particles, VOCs, and odors. An ERV brings in fresh outdoor air without spiking your energy bill. A UVC system targets bacteria, viruses, and mold spores. Most homes only need one or two of these, not all three.

Yes. We serve the greater Seattle area including Mill Creek, Lynnwood, Bothell, Everett, and the surrounding communities between Seattle and Lake Stevens.

Newer homes are built tighter and more energy-efficient, which is good for your energy bill but bad for airflow. Without a dedicated fresh air system, stale air and humidity can build up with nowhere to go.

It depends on what your home actually needs. Costs vary based on your system type, ductwork condition, and whether you need filtration, ventilation, germicidal treatment, or a combination. We test first, then quote.
